Left or Right?

Left or Right?                                                                     ~Akshat Nayak Shuffling through a pile of dusty paperwork, Samuel paused to sneeze, causing goose bumps to appear along his arms. Rubbing his tired eyes, the ink still wet on his left hand leaving marks on his face, he glanced over at his fellow detective. He was asleep. His head was resting on a large, open book, and saliva had dribbled out of his mouth and onto the pages. “Hey,” he yelled, rubbing his arms to warm up. “Wake up!” His eyes bleary, Mike glanced around,” What’s the matter? I was only resting my eyes.” Snorting, Samuel pushed back his chair and stroll...

Dear teachers

From our business trips to washrooms between the periods that we take And headaches and colds and drastic events that we fake For not doing our homework the stories that we cook To the sangya sarvanam in the middle of our maths book  We all grumble over formulas ,theorems and its types And wonder if algebra will ever be useful in our lives At one point or another we’ve all wished for newton to go to hell While every day we eagerly wait for the recess bell  But of all the drama and ruckus that we create dear teachers you do so much more than tolerate  For your patience is something we truly admire And in so many ways you constantly inspire   You taught us the importance, of a life filled with books. And never to judge one, by its cover or looks. we learn to apply, the knowledge we read. The lessons you taught us, shall help us succeed. You give us morals we wouldn't find worldwide Success is failure turned inside out, you helped us realise  Dear teachers, thank y...

Breathless

Breathless I stood there at the airport, waiting to say my goodbyes. I wore her favorite shirt, a chequered dark green one that made me look more innocent than I was. She was too busy worrying about her boarding pass that she failed to realize that these few minutes is all we have left. We were never going to meet again. This was it. It’s a strange feeling to know beforehand which exact moment is going to define a relationship. I kept searching in her eyes if she had any hint of sadness or a moment of hesitation to leave me behind. I was dying to tell her that I couldn’t breathe. She had become very important to me. Perhaps too important that I might not function properly if she wasn’t nearby. Just like air.   ‘Hey rowdy!’ she cried, snapping me out of my downward spiral. ‘I sent you this month’s rent, did you get it?’ ‘Yeah. I got it.’ I replied, without even checking. She had been my roommate for almost two years and she always paid first.  ‘I am so nervous. What...

Roots

Roots If memories take time Then I'm giving them away, 'Cause all I want's the closeness Of thoughts from yesterday If you turn your back to a tree It falls, and you don't see Is it different when you return to reality? It remains that the tree is wood The cores and rings and fibres still good But I'm sure that doesn't matter Because it changed the way it stood I do my best to be unchanging To coax you when you fell. For friendship, I'd even let You chop me down, as well But you've sunken into shallow soils Called these termites all your friends And though it's your integrity rotting, My memories have spoiled. So think about that once again When I've grown tired, and tough Because height can give you limelight But it's the roots that give you love.                                         ...

The final Redemption

The Final Redemption New years eve, what a marvellous night Oh, what a wonderful new year we had in sight! We were wishing for days warm and bright  And for times without sorrow or spite.  Then 2020 came storming in, As if to punish humanity for long standing sins Testing our urge to save our own skins, But what of our planet, and of our kins? In january the world was on fire; Whilst in India- just a few weeks prior, A bill was passed, making the public go haywire The chaos among the people was all to admire. February was no better, was it? A global superpower had taken a hit Possibly into a bat, a chinese man bit And then the world came crashing into this pit By march, from China the virus had spread; In Italy and Spain there were thousands dead Day after day, more were infected Until soon the world sat dejected. Then in April the roads were still The hotels were shut, so were the factories and mills While citizens were confined to their windowsills, The leaders of the...
